Raunchy Hurricanes

This morning my cousin and I were watching TV, getting ready for the day, the normal routine... when a commercial for Apple Bee's Sizzling Steak came on. For some reason, the ad firm handing Apple Bee's decide that the Scorpion's "Rock You Like a Hurricane" was a perfect song to show how amazing their said meat dish is. As soon as the chorus came along, my cousin belted out, "Here I am, RAUNCHY like a hurricane..." After this baffling exclamation, I reminded her that the title of the song is "Rock You Like a Hurricane" which probably means that is the same thing they are saying the chorus.
Oh well.

Here's a pretty kick ass version.

Shaking Things Up

Sooo I hardly write on here.. :( That was not the point of having this blog. I've noticed a lot of my friends beginning Tumblrs or Blogspot's, which makes me feel like I should keep up with this more.

I have changed the name from "Restlessness At It's Finest" to "One Winged Dove." This is a reference to a mistake I have been making for years. My sister pointed this out to me on a car ride home over a year ago. The song EDGE OF SEVENTEEN, by Stevie Nicks, was blasting on the radio, and like I always do, I began singing along in my own unique tone-deaf way. When the chorus came along, I belted out, "Just like the one winged dove, saves flight and sings in, ohh baby ohh ohhh." I can not explain the look my sister gave me, but I can try to describe her uncontrollable burst of laughter. She later told me the lyrics are actually, "Just like the white winged dove...Sings a song...Sounds like she's singing... Whoo.. whoo.. whoo." Apparently, I commonly mistake lyrics and sing my own version of most songs. I usually don't realize it until someone graciously points out my lyrical blunders.

ANYWAY. This will now be a common theme for posts on this new (sort of) blog.

I also will have friends posting on here as well!
It will be more of a free for all and experimental page. Inspiration. Laughter. Anything.

Blahhhhh

"I'm GaGa."

Funny story from when I first met GaGa. I was on set with CITY mag for a features shoot. This was when the 'Just Dance' video first dropped in April/May of last year. I was standing with the Art Director when this little fierce blonde waltzed up to us in an awkward pant suit, halted into a model-esque pose and said, "I'm GaGa." She then pivoted and walked towards her crew. A little girl (intern?) ran up to us with a huge case, opened it, and said, "These are GaGa's GLASSES," which was just a case of a bunch of super cool vintage classes that she expected us to style around. Anyway. After this dramatic entrance, she was actually pretty cool and super excited about her career just starting. She turned out to be pretty refreshing as an artist and her style is bananas. She has my approval as long as she doesn't sell out and start making whack music with the Neptunes or something.

Weight Watchers

Way back in 2005, I decided to try weight watchers in an attempt to be skinnier than my bestie, Brittany, before prom. This is how I went about it:

Chelsey and I were working at an after school program at the Elementary School for most of our senior year. One of the mothers, who equalled three of me, kept coming in and updating me on her weight watchers progress. I don't remember her last name, but I do remember she was Albanian and loved me because of my half Albanianess. Anyway, she suggested I try weight watchers which she might as well have said "you're fat, do this to lose weight." She lent me her little book of points and spells and I attempted to read some of it. Okay... knowing me I didn't read any of it and just looked at the page where it said 'start' and 'points per day'. After careful calculating how many points I could have, I came up with the number 36. after two weeks with NO progress what so ever, I turned to some of my aunts and grandmother at our mandatory Sunday family brunch (pure guido-ness), knowing that most middle aged women have taken a stab at weight watchers at some point in their mid 40's-60's. After telling my tale to my Aunt Allison, she asked me how many points I was ingesting and to show her the book. Apparently, I should have read the book because I was eating the point value of a pregnant woman on weight watchers which was about 10-12 points higher than the average NON pregnant female. Moral of the story: Read everything, always. Weight Watchers sucks and takes too long to lose weight, starving and exercise is way easier.

R.A. the Rugged Man

One of my dear clients (and friends) is indie rapper, R.A .The Rugged
Man. A few months back I helped him out by styling part of his new
project about his father, Staff Sgt. John A. Thorburn.
I brought on my bestie, Jill, to assist me on set. Here is a shot of
Jill and the star of the show, Sgt. Thorburn!

I Love Louis Prima 4E

Restlessness at the work place

Hello hello!

Signing on and adding to my bestie's blog, finally. And while I'm at work, no less (who says I'm not a multi-tasker?). Had a job interview this morning--here's to hoping!

Okay I'm too tired from slaving over my portfolio for the past 2 weeks to post anything terribly clever. But I saw this and it seemed relevant and I thought, "the end or the beginning of an era?"www.missbehavemag.com/2009/01/oh-and-by-the-way/

Music Video of the Week

Before he was reverend, before she was charged with vehicular manslaughter.

I'm just tryin be me, doing what i gotta do..

Check These Out

These are the sites that I'm regularly checking out.

1. Mecca: Style.com
When you go here for your daily dose of all things that matter and that are important, check out my boss modeling in the Absolute ads!

2. My fave blog: Missbehave Magazine
I will quote my best friend, Chelsey, to explain this, "It's not fucked up, it's just girls!!" That probably made no sense to you. Missbehave Mag is where I started. Everyone who creates this beautiful book is so extremely talented and awesome its redick.
Their blog makes me giggle and I really have OCD about checking it everyday. Their next issue is a banger, just like all the other ones.

3. My fave boys: Mass Appeal Magazine
Mass Appeal is Missbehave's boyfriend/big brother/dad/coach? You get what I'm saying? They are bread and butter, biscuits and gravy, peanut butter and fluff ( i love all items listed). Besides being one of my favorite magazines of ALL time.. They actually publish me too. It's so cool to have people who support you and let you be involved. All the guys over there are incredible and hillllll. My boss styled the current cover, Michael Pitt, and I styled the current, back-of-the-book, Miss Appeal.
The blog is diverse and witty and i heart it.

4. Mr. Stephen: Stephen Schuster's Photo Blog

Besides being my BESTIE, Mr. Stephen is also the photo editor of Mass Appeal and a great photographer. His blog has a gagillion of awesome photographs (some styled by yours truly). His newly launched portfolio site is just as exciting. I'm also super jealous of his branding and wish my own was as clean and perfect. Sorry, totally design-nerded out for a second. I heart Mr. Stephen, as should all.

5. The Future: Bon Duke Photography
Ambitious, talented, on point, all explain Bon Duke Nguyen. I've known Bon for over a year now and he's totally a bestie and someone i LOVE to work with. When we get together our minds explode with ideas. He's young but will take over the world. Check out the King Stampede shots we did a few months ago. Also, the compton informant story.

6. Get One of These: Dripbook.com
If you are in design, photo, illustration, or any other media that can be posted in portfolio style... get a Dripbook. Dripbook is an invite-only website that networks creatives. check mine out:
while you're there... check out BonDuke, MarleyKate, and YanikkLewis.

7. Real Life: Skullset
I mean to check this site more, but have been slacking. Jack Seigal, an LA based photographer, takes super organic pictures of his friends (filmfilmfilm!!) and puts them on his site. If only it was that easy... most of his friends are socailites, musicians, models, and actors. He shot a few things for Mass Appeal and that's how i was introduced to his work. He recently shot for Urban Outfitters. 20 bonus points to the person who finds Mr. Stephen in the photos!

8. My Best Friend: Free TV Online
Since I moved to BK back in sept, I have been tv-less. My room mate doesn't have one, so i left mine at my parents house. Living tv-less for the past few months has been quite a blessing. I read more, I create more, and I go on my computer a HECKUVA lot more. When I'm on my computer I watch TV online. Surf the Channel is where i usually go, but if there are others like it, i wouldn't mind exploring. The top shows I watch are Law and Order (SVU!), Friends, the L word (my bff's on it), 30 rock, All That, and Are You Afraid of the Dark?.

9. Music: Magic Online Radio
This is the best radio/playlist website online!! Make an account for free and make your own stations. It always plays the songs i want to hear. My favorite stations are my amy winehouse, converge, nirvana.

10. The Artist: Shawn Feeney
Shawn Feeney is a man of many, many talents. From art to music to fighting crime. He does it all. His drawings are inspiring and intriguing. His BFF project is hillll and i really want one of me and my bestie, Terence. I saw Mr. Feeney perform in his hip hop side project, Green Hemoglobin, last weekend and I have never seen anything like it in my life. An experience worth a lifetime. They only perform once every ten years... so mark your calenders for 2018.

11. Fake Education: Odd News
Every morning, I wake up, brush my teeth, make a cup of tea, read the real news, then read ODD NEWS. I'm obsessed and you should be too.

CHECK THESE OUT!!
Old Time Rock n Roll

Senses

I can't be at my computer with out music on.
No particular kind of music, just something, anything buy silence.

I find a lot of things funny, by funny i mean really, really interesting.

My office sitch is wayyy serious.
I work at a pretty cool fashion magazine. It's not in your face vogue but its not a smaller unheard of random boutique mag. It's more timeless than timely and it's definitely different than anywhere I've ever worked or been involved with. Although the publication will be nameless for the time being, let me explain the office sitch. Small room above popular bar in SoHo.. pretty cool right? Real cool staff, a bit serious, but super chill. The only thing that bugs me a bit... is the silence. No one has music on, or youtubes blasting, or any of the sort. The last office I was in had so much going on all the time, music, videos, massive chatting. I love office dynamics and everything involved with it; the people, the environment, the smells, and sounds. Unfortunately, there is not much of a soundtrack to my current office but where they lack in sound, they are the kings of smell. Well.. not my coworkers, but the bar downstairs. As soon as you walk into the building this smell attacks your nasal passage and goes straight to your brain and you will never forget this smell.
Anyway... the point was the no music/silence thing. The fact that i feel like i have to whisper when i answer the phone. I just think its funny and interesting. like everything else.

LINGO:
sitch= situation
funny=interesting=serious

anonymity

how can i make this thing private so no one can tell its me writing?

how can anyone answer that when no one knows this exists?

i think i'm going to start updating just so i can remember things in a more organized fashion.

these are the topics i hope to cover:
fashion
ocd
folklore
publishing
nyc
music
memories
tattoos
fake scenarios
the L train
my own personal amendments to adobe cs3
the L word
people i respect
cats and/or animals
websites i like
my friends and family
things that I've shot/ things I'm shooting.
funny conversations i over hear on the subway
BRUNCH
my hatred of my palm treo (love/hate)
Grade School considerations
the 90's
There will be an abundant amount of top 5's and top 10's
my friends who are making movesssss

I don't know why I'm doing this

But ultimately, I guess I do. Caving in and starting a blog. I should have done this months ago or I shouldn't do this at all. Anyway, we'll see how it goes. This might be too much internet responsibility for me.
